Global Education is a philosophy of living and a methodology that seeks to link issues of peace, human rights, environment, and equitable, sustainable development to our personal and professional lives. It also seeks to find and implement ways of infusing these interconnected issues into our existing curricula and institutions by coming to understand the natural and human engineered systems in which they exist.

About Us

HER/HIS Story of PAGE BC

The formation of the British Columbia Teachers for Peace And Global Education (PAGE) was preceded by two groups of educators who shared some common goals and chose to join forces to create a better world. A group of teachers advocating peace, led by Fran Jovic, and a group of teachers advocating global education, led by Mary Gillanders, joined together in 1985 to form the PAGE Provincial Specialist Association (PSA).

Over the past 25 years PAGE has been led by Presidents Fran Jovic, Mary Gillanders, Dave Talbot, Beata Hittrich, Judy Brayden, Pummy Kaur, Donald Wilson, and Susan Ruzic. They have been joined by dozens of executive members who have worked tirelessly to educate fellow teachers at conferences, and in print. The membership has steadily increased, and has included educators not only from B.C, but also Ontario and Prince Edward Island, as well as South Africa and Australia. As an important philosophical PSA, PAGE has collaborated with national and local groups to further its goals of awareness raising, professional development, and activism, and supports both local and international initiatives that are in accord with its objectives.

Our journal, The Global Educator, has been referred to as "the most substantive PSA publication”. This is due, in large part, to the dedication of its editors, and the quality of articles from both members and non-members, including seasoned journalists and academics. The Global Educator can be found in libraries of faculties of education across Canada, providing a valuable resource for education students.
